You've probably already heard me mention that I had an appointment booked with Nutritionist and Health Coach Madeleine Shaw this week. I couldn't wait to meet her to get some helpful advice on healthy eating. Madeleine met me near work and we went for a tea ( peppermint I might add) at a little place in St John's Square.
Greeting me with a huge warm smile Madeleine is a walking advert for her job title. Beautiful glowing skin, healthy hair and teeth. Everything about her screamed Health! She has the warmest presence about her and a shining aura!
First off she asked me a little about myself, my job, medical history, current medication, weight, height etc. She then asked me what I wanted to gain from my appointment. I explained to Madeleine that I am getting married in a few months and would like to lose some weight for that but would also like a healthy eating plan that I could continue in the future. I told her that the main area I find difficult to lose weight is my stomach. Madeleine said that usually weight around the tummy is related to sugar, stress or hormones.
We went through all my usual meals, breakfast, lunch and dinner, liquids, snacks etc. She also noted down all my meals times. I feel that my diet is pretty healthy, I have a little of what I fancy and stick to plenty of fresh meat, fish and vegetables. I don't feel that I have a lot of sugar in my diet but Madeleine explained that so many "low fat" foods in the supermarket are actually filled with hidden sugars. This could be where I have been going wrong!
Madeleine's aim is to create simple healthy eating plans using good quality whole foods and fresh produce. Her words were" i'm taking it back to basics". Things like low fat spreads need to go...she explained that using clarified butter is far better for us as it contains natural fats. These "light" spreads are processed and filled with hidden chemicals. The look of shock in my face made Madeleine laugh! She said a lot of people think she is mad when she encourages Whole Milk Yogurts instead of Low Fat ones but to her the theory is very simple and if looking at her is anything to go by then I'll have whatever she's having!
Madeleine will be contacting me this week with a healthy eating plan and some quick, healthy recipes to try out. I'm so excited!! I left her feeling full of beans and ready for my new path to health! We actually lost track of time and went over our hour as we began having a chat. I almost forgot I was there for an appointment. By the end of the consultation I felt that I had made a new friend in Madeleine. She really had the most positive attitude to life and I would highly recommend her!!
